Frequently Asked Questions
1
Who can be a camper at Camp Fruit Loop?
All Camp Fruit Loop campers identify as LGBTQ+, are at least 13 years old, and are currently in high school. Upcoming 9th graders through graduated seniors are all eligible to apply.
2
Where is Camp Fruit Loop located?
We meet each year at the Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center in Applegate, California. The center is conveniently located just off of Interstate 80, approximately 40 minutes northeast of Sacramento.
3
Why do I need to interview after I apply?
Our interviews with new campers have a few different purposes. First, it helps to ensure the safety of our campers. We meet each camper and a caregiver ahead of time to confirm the application is legitimate. Second, we want to make sure our campers will have fun at camp! We know from experience that campers who understand what to expect and are open to following the expectations, such as joining in group activities, are most likely to be successful at Camp Fruit Loop. If you have previously attended Camp Fruit Loop, you will only need to interview if you are asked to do so. Otherwise, you can assume your application has been accepted and move forward with making plans to attend.
4
My teen experiences neurodiversity. Are they welcome at camp?
Absolutely. Many of our campers (and our camp leadership) are neurodiverse and are familiar with the sensory and social needs of people with neurodiversity.
5
How much does it cost to attend camp?
The total cost per camper is $1100.00. However, thanks to generous donors and fundraising efforts, tuition for camp is $650.00 per camper. There is an early bird discount available as well. Campers who complete their registration and pay their deposit before Dec 31, 2025 can attend camp for $550.00.
6
I would love for my teen to join Camp Fruit Loop, but I'm concerned about the financial commitment. What are my options?
The total cost of Camp Fruit Loop per camper is $1100.00. Through generous donors and fundraising, we are able to offer Camp Fruit Loop spots for $650.00. If this is not feasible for you this year, please don't let money be the barrier. We have a financial support fund and are happy to extend support to as many campers as we can. You can find more information about requesting financial support in the Registration form.
7
Do you offer transportation to and from camp?
Caregivers are responsible for transporting their camper to and from camp. If you are struggling with transportation, we recommend connecting with The Landing Spot's Caregiver Support Group to discuss carpooling options.
8
What is the culture of camp like?

Our camp leaders are trained in Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) principles to create felt safety for our campers during the week. As a result, our campers often say that the Camp Fruit Loop culture is more relaxed and peaceful than other places they have been. Additionally, we are convinced that in-person, relaxed time together is what our LGBTQ+ teens most desperately need these days. Silliness, unstructured play, real conversations, and authentic connections - this is the best way to describe Camp Fruit Loop.
9
Who will be leading my camper?
The leaders of Camp Fruit Loop are adults who love our camp and believe in our purpose. Camp Fruit Loop counselors have all completed background checks and training, as well as spent many hours planning activities for your camper. We have a preference for leaders who have previously attended as a camper. Our campers frequently want to come back year after year, and eventually become counselors themselves. They build richer connections and deepen our camp traditions and culture.
10
Can my middle schooler attend Camp Fruit Loop?
We have a dream of offering a Camp Fruit Loop week specifically to middle schoolers in the future. However, at this time, we don't have the ability to accomodate both middle and high schoolers on our campus. Teens must be entering 9th grade in order to apply.
11
Do we have to live in Northern California for my teen to attend?
All are welcome at Camp Fruit Loop! Our dream of camp grew out of the needs of the youth in Placer County, California. However, we have had campers attend from as far away as New York! If your camper meets qualifications, they are welcome to join us. It is important to note that Camp Fruit Loop cannot provide transportation, including airport shuttles. Transportation is the responsibility of caregivers.
